To My Child
*Just for this morning, I am going to step over the
laundry, and pick you up and take you to the park to play.
laundry, and pick you up and take you to the park to play.
*Just for this morning, I will leave the dishes in the sink, and let you teach me how to put that puzzle of yours together.
*Just for this afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the computer off, and sit with you in the backyard and blow bubbles.
*Just for this afternoon, I will not yell once, not even a tiny grumble when you scream and whine for the ice cream truck and I will buy you one if he comes by.
*Just for this afternoon, I won't worry about what you are going to be when you grow up, or second guess every decision I have made where you are concerned.
*Just for this afternoon, I will let you help me bake cookies, and I won't stand over you trying to fix them.
*Just for this afternoon, I will take us to McDonald's and buy us both a Happy Meal so you can have both toys.
*Just for this evening, I will hold you in my arms and tell you a story about how you were born and how much I love you.
*Just for this evening, I will let you splash in the tub and not get angry.
*Just for this evening, I will let you stay up late while we sit on the porch and count all the stars.
*Just for this evening, I will snuggle beside you for hours, and miss my favorite TV shows.
*Just for this evening when I run my finger through your hair as you pray, I will simply be grateful that GOD has given me the greatest gift ever given.
*I will think about the mothers and fathers who are searching for their missing children, the mothers and fathers who are visiting their children's graves instead of their bedrooms, and mothers and fathers who are in hospital rooms watching their children suffer senselessly, and screaming inside that they can't handle it anymore.
*And when I kiss you good night I will hold you a little tighter, a little longer. It is then, that I will thank GOD for you, and ask Him for nothing,
except one more day.............
I'm pretty happy to say that I already do most of these things. My house looks like poo most days, chaos abounds always, but I'm not missing a thing...One day they will be gone and my house will look like a photo out of a magazine.
And I will be so sad...
And that my friends,
is what the Hokey Pokey is ALL about*!*

Well Dianna, we will just have to be BFF's (blog friends forever) now that you have serenaded me with Veggie Tales. The thoughts were lovely on your post today. I think I'll come back and read them again before I wake the kids up tomorrow. I forget when they are swarming around me and pecking at me like chickens how quickly they will grow up! Jen
That was so sweet. TFS
I'm with ya sister! You know how I am about everything being in its place....well that hasn't happened since I started having kids. The time is flying by WAY too fast and I don't want to miss a second.
Yes, they do go up so fast and every once in while in this busy world we do need to slow down. thanks for sharing
Awww!!! That is precious! I better get off this computer and enjoy this snow day with my girls! Thanks for sharing...
What a lovely sentiment your sister sent you. Enjoy those kids while you can, because they grow up all too quickly!
That was very touching...and kinda does explain why I won't commit to a message board, right now. I seen what 5 years on one did with my time. So I love my being in blog land. LOL
That is beautiful...thanks for posting that!!!
What an amazing sis!!! That's a great "poem". It's been ages since I had a Happy Meal...what toy is in it these days? My guys are teens and I actually have to wait (impatiently) for them to come and talk to me. But when they do, I'm all ears!!!
Keep that house a mess and play with your kids!!!
:D
TFS! We all need a reminder now and again. Having a teenager (16) and a toddler (3) keeps me hopping. I have never been a big housekeeper, we live here it is not a museum. ;) A day around our house without blowing bubbles & coloring would be very unusual. Sometimes I do wish we lived where it was warmer so we could be outside more with the little one. :) Happy v-day!
WAhhhhh, seriously tears running down my face. It's been a really tough parenting week with my oldest and I just hope that I can have to foresight to know that everything is going to work out okay.
Going to put my left foot in now...
Oh wow...now, you've made me cry too. Happy Valentines Day, Dianna! smiles...
Just showin' you the LOVE...Happy V'day Diana! Jennifer
