Trash to Treasure~something *happy*

What the heck is that ugly thing you ask? It's one of my husband's shirts...no joke...and he WEARS it. We were buying some work shirts for him super on sale last year and he snuck this ...thing in with the other nice, handsome, tasteful shirts. He says he likes it~he only likes it because it drives me nuts! Everyone at work says they love it...they don't. How could they? Anyone that says they like it is just plain lying...or blind...or weird. One day at work, someone took a picture of Hubby in the shirt and made it everyone's computer screen wallpaper (the photo of course was zoomed in on just the horrid pattern). I'm nauseous at the thought... At the company Christmas party (in front of hundreds of people) he was awarded "Best Dressed" and given an 8X10 photo-you guessed it-of himself in the shirt. It was the work of the 3 people that work in his dept~it's all in good fun I know...

I still hate the shirt.

SOOOO,
For Christmas I made the 3 of them a special gift.

I downloaded some free paper dolls (the girls) from Papergoodies http://www.papergoodies.com/

and the boy from Marilee's Paperdolls.

I got hubby to bring home some staff photos so I could attach their heads in place of the paper doll heads. I took a pic of the awful shirt, printed it out on photopaper and traced the paper doll clothes onto it. I cut out the dolls, laminated them (I didn't want them to get worn out from all of the playing I'm sure they would get), and I cut out the clothes, adding the detail from the originals...and a few extras too. I mounted them on cardstock with 4 layers of mounting tape so they would stand out and have room enough to put on, and remove the clothes. On the back of the frame is a little envelope that holds each doll's wardrobe. Now they can play with (and wear) Hubby's ugly shirt all day long without leaving their desk!

This was a pretty fun project...they laughed their heads off and that's all I could ask for! Makes me *happy*!

Now I know you said I can't like that shirt but there's just something about it!! Not many people could pull it off that's for sure but Preston wears it well!
Those paper dolls are a hoot. You should make some for your girls. I loved paper dolls as a kid.

OMG, Dianna, You are HILARIOUS!!! And I really do like that pattern--but not for a shirt! LOL I have a similar story. My husband bought an UGLY shirt at Gap. That store is not in our budget, unless it's clearance. And I know this shirt was not, but it should have been! He was with his best friend (Mr. Fashion--whatever!) when he got it. I have wanted to pin that "friend" down and ask him WHAT on earth made him not talk my husband out of it!? It was HIDEOUS. Short short sleeves, so pit hair shows. And even where the hair on his arm starts to fade into nonexistence. Ugh. Way worse than a farmer's tan! And it was just awful, I tell you! I wish I had a pic. Well, I got so fed up with that shirt, I hid it in the closet under/behind the dirty clothes hamper. He forgot about it! He's never asked for it! Hallelujah! LOL Sorry I had to share my story of "Ugly Shirt."
