One of my favorite projects and a funny blog!

I had been looking for something fun to hang in Mallory's room for a while and I was so excited when I ran across the perfect little *happy* for the job. I'm aggravated at myself for not taking photos along the way with this project, but sometimes I just get so excited and just START!

On our trip to Colorado, my Aunt took my Mom and I to some GREAT antique shops where I found this fun Betsy McCall paper doll page. There were TONS to choose from but since Betsy was having her picture taken, I knew this one was the one : )

Framing it was going to be tricky since it was an awkward size torn from a magazine, so I had to improvise.
One thing I have a super hard time with is paying a fortune for framing. It is INSANE how much people charge for framing and well, I just won't do it. I found a 16x20 frame that had been pretty beat up and was on sale for $6...and yes, way too big. I found a banged up mat that was 20x24 with an 11x14 opening on sale for $1. Great price but both the outer edge and inner cut out were too big also. I cut the outer edge of the mat so the mat would fit into the frame and saved those outer scraps. I bought some fabric, cut it to fit the mat and adhered it with Mod Podge. I wrapped the scraps I cut from the outer edge with the fabric and adhered them to the mat along the mat opening, making the opening smaller to fit the page (I added some felt ric rac on top of that because it makes me smile)...JUST what I needed.

The frame was a little beat up so I just went with it and sanded it a little bit around the edges.
Little Betsy hangs over Mallory's bed and I just love her. I love that she cost about $13 all together too!

I finally got my plate wall painted today and I'm kind of worried about how much all of those plate holders will cost...I need about 34. Oooops : /

**My SUPER HILARIOUS friend Jill started a blog and you should SO go and check it out. She always has great stories and finds funny in everything, everywhere...my kind of gal!!! You have to go check out her toilet bowl art...she is a HOOT!**

Happy Thursday! : )

Di...that framework is SO CUTE!!! I hate to say I actually played with Betsy McCall paper dolls, so I'm aging myself.

That's the BEST kind of art...cheap and super creative!

Yep, the toilet bowl art is about all I can muster artistically. That's why I come HERE for my artist fix.

I WILL stop by Jills space and nose around.

I Loved Betsy McCall paper dolls when I was a very (almost embreyo) little girl. I had a Betsy McCall doll too when I was four. I broke her arm off and sobbed.

I was four. Whew! I have such a memory for things that happened a mere 30+ years ago. (thirty! a HOOT)
Anywho, I love your crafty picture!
