I'll be back tracking in future posts I'm sure, but for now...my baby turned 10!
She wanted breakfast in bed, she got breakfast in bed (she chose her menu).
And the universal rule when turning 10: Ice cream for dinner!
The next day, we painted pottery.
(FYI...with a four year old, NOT a great idea.)
She decided on a bird theme (Mama did a happy dance : ) and we had so much fun putting her cake together.
Did we BAKE the cake ourselves? Now come on, does it REALLY matter? Really, does it?
{ Publix doesn't think it matters I'm sure. }
ANYWAY...My MIL wanted to see what we could do with the frosting sheets Cricut is selling for their Cricut Cake machine. We tried cutting them with fondant cutters with no luck SOOOO we busted out the Big Kick!
...and it worked beautifully!!!
We used our Martha Stewart punches for the border and the butterflies and as you can see, that worked too!!! Such a wonderfully fun, happy discovery : )
My MIL and I were up until 3am, but WOW...we just adore that cake!
I was excited to use my Grandma Jeanne's tablecloth and the little brown bird from her house. That little brown bird figurine is one of those sweet things that is so vivid in my memory...something that no one else even noticed or remembered, but to me was so special. I can remember staring at it on her fancy corner shelf in her living room. When she died, my wonderful Aunt called me and asked me what were some of the special things from Grandma's house that reminded me of her. One of things I thought of right away was that little brown bird. {BTW, I think that is SO important. You NEVER know what another family member considers a treasure. No one knew that I was in love with that bird when I was a kid, and now that he's here with me in my house, I can smile at him every day and think of her.}
*ramble over*
Delaney loved her cake and L O V E D that we put her name on it too...
Everything was edible except for the topper ( the roof of the birdhouse was covered in the icing sheets though...my MIL's idea. LOVED it! )
She said that her bird party was exactly what she wanted...knowing that she was happy, made all of us very happy too : )
Mission accomplished.
Can't forget this!
Delaney and I had a great time cutting out birds to hang from the ceiling behind the cake...I might never take them down! We used the heck out of that Big Kick y'all.
SO fun!
Happy Tuesday : )
